I’ve heard many of my clients have considered using unlicensed movers in Illinois. Often found on Craigslist, grocery store bulletin boards, or even in the Yellow Pages, they promise cheap prices and great service. Many customers trying to ‘save a buck’ have considered taking this route to move their most important possessions.
Illinois Law makes unlicensed moving an illegal act. Why? View this excerpt from “HANDBOOK FOR APPLICANTS FOR A LICENSE TO PROVIDE MOVING SERVICES IN ILLINOIS”.
The transportation of household goods is a very personal service’, and is the
transportation service, which most directly affects illinois consumers.
Under Illinois law, only those businesses, which have demonstrated that they are
fit, willing and able to provide this service, will be licensed. Additionally, such
businesses are subject to regulatory requirements regarding price and set-vice
offerings, financial reporting and operational documents, as well as compliance
with safety and insurance standards. It is unlawful to perform for-hire household
goods transportation within Illinois without possessing a valid license from the
illinois Commerce Commission (Commission).
I’ll highlight more recent reasons to use a licensed mover in Illinois in future posts. In the meantime, if you are moving within the state of Illinois (Interstate moves have a different set of rules) click on my links on the side of this page to find a qualified mover in your area.
